As we move toward the High Holidays we need to do our homework. In Hebrew,
we call this Hesbone ha-Nefesh (self-examination). Now is a good time to sit and think, or go for a walk. You choose the place or places that speak to you. Ask yourself hard questions. Who am I? Why am I here? Where did I do good? When did I fail myself or others?
We are quick to point our finger at other people, our enemies, our detractors, our competitors. Pogo has taught us, "We have seen our enemy, and it is us..."
What are the ways we harm our own life?
How can we be kind, more kind to ourselves?
Love your neighbor as yourself. We cannot love our neighbor until we love and care for ourselves.
What is blocking our self care.... our self happiness...our self-respect?
Let the process begin.
